Patricia (Patty) Durner graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Relationships, with a Minor in Gerontology. She also received a Masters of Education with a Community Counseling Emphasis. She is licensed in the State of Nebraska as a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP). She is also licensed in the State of North Dakota as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

 

She is certified as a Sex Addiction Therapist through International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). She was trained under the direction of Dr. Patrick Carnes. She worked at The Meadows in Arizona, initially working in the inpatient facility working with a substance abuse/dependence group. She then worked in extended care for sexual recovery, facilitating individual and group therapy for sex addiction. While at The Meadows she received continuing education from professionals, such as, Dr. Claudia Black, Dr. Peter Levine, and Pia Mellody.

 

Patty is also EMDR Certified (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Much of the work she does with EMDR is trauma work, however, she is trained using EMDR - Feeling State Addiction Protocol (FSAP) which focuses on compulsive/addictive behaviors, such as substance (drugs, alcohol, tobacco) and behavioral addictions. She also uses EMDR Recent Trauma Protocol (R-TEP) for recent traumas.

 

She worked at UNK counseling with students, including International Students. She also facilitated a support group for International Students. While at UNK she worked as a Personal Counselor, Associate Director for Counseling Care and the Women's Center. Patty participated in a Professional Exchange Program in which she traveled to China as part of a 1+2+1 Program for Chinese students. She also traveled to Lithuania and completed coursework for her Master's Degree in a Lithuanian University, taught by a Professor from UNK.

 

In 2013 she traveled to Honduras where she was enrolled in a Spanish Language School. Although she is not fluent in Spanish, she continues to work on learning the Spanish language. She has also traveled to Mexico, Nicaragua, and Honduras doing mission work in those nations.
